“We really didn’t sit with the popular kids”

I just kept wondering ‘Why don’t other people want to be my friend.’
“So I had this friend in 5th grade named Samantha. She was basically my only friend during elementary school. After graduating, I didn’t see her again until one day in high school when I was coming back from one of my friend’s funeral. I saw her while I was still really sad, and she looked exactly the same. Probably because I was sad already upon seeing her, I immediately remembered this sad memory from 5th grade. Samantha and I always sat together at lunch. We didn’t really sit with the popular kids or even the other kids, but always by ourselves. One day Samantha wasn’t there, and I sat in the cafeteria alone. I was so humiliated and felt so alone that I started crying while eating, because I just kept wondering ‘Why don’t other people want to be my friend.’ And so that was all I could think about when I saw her again after all those years.”
